A winning/losing match will turn the team’s position a lot. Now that comes to reality, India dropped to 3rd position after a huge loss against the Kiwis and still there is scope to drop to 6th place if they loss any upcoming matches.
Kiwis, which had a great match, are on 2nd place as Aussies continues stay on top 1 with 132 points. India is moved on to 3rd place with 116 points, and New Zealand on 2nd place with 117 points.
South Africa & England are the other teams who are in the competition among Top Five. Sri Lankan team is on 6th position though the point’s difference is just 4. Sri Lanka is playing on home ground, this is their strength. Home crowds support and local players are the key for matches. Spinner Mathews & Mendis are in good form with pace attacker Malinga.
Key players of India are missing the ODI tri series. The absence of Sachin and Gambhir in the top order has shown a major impact in the first ODI. Bowling was pretty weak as Zaheer Khan was unavailable; the performance of Ishant and Oohja was not so remarkable. It will be testing series for India as part of 2011 World cup preparation.
Few wins will definitely take Sri Lanka to 2nd Spot and India to 6th place. So, for Dhoni’s team, it’s a must win. Let’s wait to see the series to decide the Steady Rankings.
